As the prime contractor, Northern Tier Contracting, Inc., working closely with the architects at Mach Architecture, P.C., and the State University Construction Fund to complete a multi-year, multi-phase renovation of DANA Hall, located at SUNY Canton. Over the course of the project, NTC worked with more than 50 subcontractors. The exterior renovation was a challenge due to the slope around the building. NTC worked to build a retaining wall, poured aesthetically pleasing sidewalks, paved the surrounding parking areas, and planted regionally appropriate trees, shrubs, and grasses. The distinct exterior is the result of siding the building with zinc coated copper siding. The interior of the project involved constructing a partial second floor addition with a new metal floor deck as well as exit stairs with custom handrails. Also included in the addition was the construction of new classrooms and educational spaces, offices, new bathrooms, and locker rooms. One of the most notable features of the project are the custom suspended acoustic and ornamental ceilings, giving the building a unique design. Custom wood and metal casework add to the individuality and function of the building. NTC completely remodeled the gymnasium - new technology throughout, new athletic flooring, bleachers and athletic equipment were installed. One of the largest aspects of the project was replacing the mechanical, electrical, fire, data, and plumbing systems.
